Grace

Grace Hopper developed the first computer that performed automatic calculations. Hopper forged the vision of automated programming and paved the path that changed the perception people had about programming. She also wrote an instruction manual on operating embedded software. Grace Hopper speculated and wrote the first compiler, which, in essence, taught computers to speak English and thus paved the way for the world of computing and programming we now know today. In addition to doing this, she created a programming language called FLOW-MATIC, which was later extended to create the programming language known as COBOL.
